What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a holistic healthy care system that utilizes natural medicines such as vitamins, diet, minerals, herbal medicine and lifestyle changes to create positive change within the body.

It focuses on an individual’s needs therefore the consults an hour long and each protocol is crafted specifically for your unique needs and requirements.

Naturopathic medicine has been around for a very long time and today it combines the best of two worlds; both modern scientific research and lab testing plus traditional teachings on diet, lifestyle, and herbal medicine.

A naturopath’s job is to help your body heal itself. One of the biggest keys to healing is knowing that your body can heal. So often we are told and hear from mainstream health care that once you have a health condition your stuck with it for life. From a naturopathic perspective this is not true.

Sickness happens because we become unbalanced and it's our body's way of telling us there's something out of whack. Essentially all we have to do is to change the environment within your body to one that supports good health and vitality not sickness and then your body responds accordingly.

"My focus is to help get you well and to teach you how to stay well. It’s not about covering symptoms, taking longs lists of medications or supplements for years to come. It’s about simple dietary and lifestyle changes that add up to support a healthy body, mind and spirit". - Hannah

Naturopathy Diagnostic Testing, Sunshine Coast

Diagnostic Testing

Diagnostic Testing is often an important step of the wellness journey, as the first step to getting better is knowing what's wrong.  In most cases when people come to see me they have already had a diagnosis from their but often there are still unanswered questions such as;

What is your thyroid doing?
How are your hormone levels?
Do you have enough of the Key essential nutrients?
Is this problem aggravated by food?
Is your condition caused by toxicity (heavy metals or chemicals)?
Is it caused by an over growth of Candida, SIBO or an imbalance of bacteria in the gut?
Do you have genetic problems such as Pyrroles, MTHFR etc?

These are very common questions so we may need to get some extra tests done to confirm or rule these questions out.

I can help you complete a range of diagnostic tests such as the SIBO Breath Test, Pyrroles Test, DUTCH Hormone Test, Hormonal and Metabolic testing, IgG allergy and food sensitivity or intolerance testing, ALCAT food and environmental pollution tests and more.

Herbal Medicine, Sunshine Coast

Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine has been around for a very long time; in fact, it may be the oldest therapeutic medicine known to man. According to archaeologists the use of medicinal plants dates back 30,000 - 50,000 years.

When you come to see me, I will assess your body for signs and symptoms that indicate the use of certain herbs. I will also use kinesiology to assess each of your organs and glands energetically this gives me a deeper insight to which herbs are best for you enabling me to make up an herbal formula that’s specifically tailored to your health concerns.

How Does Herbal Medicine Work?

Herbal medicine works in a few different ways that combine together this is known as the synergy of herbal medicine and is a very important aspect to understand.

The man factors are:

  • Plants are intelligent, they have consciousness and your body has access to this when you take them! They are a little bit magical - this is why I love herbal medicine so much. :)

  • They contain active phytochemical compounds that are scientifically proven to help aid the healing process of the body.

  • Plants contain nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, proteins, immune strengthening sugars and fats.

  • Each plant is unique and creates different effects in your body e.g. ginger is warming, Andrographis is cooling, chickweed is moistening. When you ingest the right plants with the right qualities it helps your body heal.

Did you know that many of the pharmaceutical drugs used today were originally derived from plants? They first isolate the active part of a medicinal plant and then it's synthetically manufactured into a drug.
This is one of the main reasons why pharmaceutical drugs have side effects. They are not made by nature, they are not alive nor biologically intelligent like a plant. Therefore they do not contain the naturally occurring, balanced mixture of plant chemicals that medicinal herbs do.

A good example of this "herbal synergy" is found in meadowsweet, which is used for stomach complains. Meadowsweet contains salicylic acid which is closely related to aspirin. This compound can cause internal bleeding from the stomach wall when given alone. However, Meadowsweet contains compounds called polyphenols, which protect the stomach - balancing out the effects of the salicylic acid. This is why nature is intelligent.

NATURE KNOWS BEST! And this is why Herbal medicine works so well when prescribed by a knowledgeable practitioner.
